Charles Okyere, lawyer for embattled former Managing Director of BOST, Edwin Provencal, says his client’s arrest is connected to an ongoing investigation into alleged causing of financial loss to the state.
Although he declined to delve into the specifics of the case, the lawyer insisted there is no evidence of wrongdoing against his client.
He disclosed this after successfully securing a variation of Provencal’s bail conditions from GH¢60 million to GH¢30 million.
Speaking to the press, Mr Okyere explained that the revised bail terms include two sureties and a directive for his client to deposit his passport at the court registry.
“EOCO is purportedly investigating him for causing financial loss. It’s a very detailed matter. The supposed financial loss itself has not even occurred. There’s no loss at the moment. So, you cannot be investigating somebody or charging somebody for a crime that has not been committed,” he said.
Provencal was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Monday, November 10, while attempting to board a flight to Maputo, Mozambique, without securing the necessary authorisation.
