President John Dramani Mahama has announced his decision to fill vacant ministerial positions after the Christmas holidays.
This follows calls for the appointment of substantive Defence and Environment Ministers after the deaths of Dr Edward Omane Boamah and Dr Murtala Muhammed, who were among the eight persons who perished in a helicopter crash on August 6 this year.
Speaking during a meeting with Muslim leaders at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, November 25, President Mahama said there was no rush to name replacements.
He dismissed speculations about new appointments, including a new Defence Minister and Environment Minister, but stressed that such rumours were unfounded.
“They say Allah gives and Allah takes. He took two of our comrades and we haven’t filled those positions yet,” he said. Mahama added that appointments would be made early next year.
He urged the public to remain calm and ignore claims that new ministers would be announced assuring that the positions would be filled after the Christmas season.
“I can see people speculating he is going to appoint new defence minister, new environment minister. We are not in a hurry. We will do those appointments next year after the holiday, the Christmas and the holiday we will fill those positions.
“So those speculating about somebody going to be appointed tomorrow and all that just take your time , go and ejoy Christmas and after Christmas we will fill those ones,” president Mahama said.
