The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) has highlighted the crucial connection between the country’s ports and its agricultural sector, noting that the success of one is closely tied to the other.
In a press release issued Friday to mark 2025 Farmers Day, titled “From the Seas to the Soil, We Stand United!”, the Authority described Ghanaian farmers as key drivers of both domestic food security and international trade. The message aligns with this year’s Farmers Day theme: “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.”
The GMA said the prosperity of Ghana’s maritime ports depends on the productivity of its farms, pointing to commodities such as cocoa, grains, and fresh produce as the “wealth that ultimately sails through Ghana’s international ports.”
It also highlighted its role in supporting agriculture, facilitating the import of essential farm inputs like fertilizers and machinery, and ensuring the safe transit of agricultural exports that generate national revenue.
“The success of our ports is intrinsically tied to the success of our farms,” the statement emphasized, underlining the interdependence of these vital sectors.
The press release concluded with a pledge to strengthen the logistics chain connecting farms to global markets and extended warm Farmers Day greetings to Ghana’s agricultural workforce: “Happy Farmers Day to our Gallant Farmers.”
