Three people have died and six others sustained injuries in a head-on collision involving a Howo tipper truck and a Daewoo Matiz on the Kpando–Aziave road on December 3, 2025. One occupant escaped unharmed.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received the distress call at 14:28 hours on Friday, December 5, prompting an immediate response from the Anfoega Fire Station rescue team.
By the time personnel arrived, six injured victims had already been transported to the Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital.
The tipper truck, which had two occupants, left the driver injured while the mate escaped unscathed. The Daewoo Matiz carried eight passengers.
Five sustained various injuries, while the driver and two others were trapped in the severely mangled vehicle. GNFS rescuers managed to extricate all three, but the Matiz driver died on the spot.
The bodies of the other two later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Daewoo Matiz veered into the lane of the oncoming tipper truck, triggering the fatal collision.
The smaller vehicle was completely wrecked, while the truck suffered damage to its windscreen, front bumper, right headlight, and fenders.
Police assisted in securing the scene as GNFS personnel cleared debris and restored traffic flow along the stretch.
