Daniel Yaw Domelevo has been named the new Board Chairman of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The former Auditor-General’s appointment comes at a time when EOCO is under increasing pressure to deliver results in tackling economic crimes and organized corruption.
His reputation for accountability and fiscal discipline is expected to inject fresh confidence into the institution.
As Auditor-General, Domelevo earned widespread praise from civil society and governance experts after uncovering major financial irregularities within the public sector.
His firm approach made him a household name, but it also attracted political controversy. His forced exit in 2021 was met with sharp criticism, with many fearing it signaled a setback for institutional independence and the anti-corruption agenda.
Even after leaving office, Domelevo’s expertise continued to be sought. He served on President John Mahama’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, which was tasked with gathering data and making recommendations on possible corruption cases.
The committee’s findings have since been handed over to the Attorney-General, paving the way for prosecutions
