The Ghana Police Service has arrested two individuals following the circulation of a disturbing video showing a young girl being physically abused at Agona Jamasi.
The video was picked up during routine cyber patrols by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber
Vetting and Enforcement Team after it spread widely on TikTok and other social media platforms.
Investigations traced the original post to a user identified as Tina Adjei.
Police swiftly moved to the community, where they arrested a 75-year-old woman, Grace Mensah, who identified herself as the grandmother of the 11-year-old victim.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Godfred Osei Akoto, 25, the young man seen assaulting the child in the video.
According to police, Osei Akoto claimed he acted with the grandmother’s approval as punishment after the child allegedly went missing briefly from home.
The grandmother reportedly confirmed this account during interrogation.
The child has since been rescued and is safe. Both suspects are currently in custody and have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DVVSU) as investigations continue.
