Government has assured the public of minimal disruption to electricity supply as the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) undertakes a scheduled maintenance exercise on its gas facilities in Ghana on Sunday, January 18, 2026.
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, together with the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), said it has been formally notified that the mandatory maintenance will take place between 6:00am and 3:00pm, resulting in a temporary interruption in gas supply to thermal power plants located in Tema .
According to GRIDCo in a statement issued on January 17, the maintenance is a necessary safety measure aimed at ensuring the long-term reliability and integrity of the gas supply infrastructure.
It said the exercise forms part of routine operational requirements critical to sustaining safe gas transportation across the pipeline network.
