Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has commended the United States for improving visa processing at its embassy in Ghana, describing the development as a significant step in easing travel for Ghanaians.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs noted that enhanced arrangements at the United States Embassy in Accra have led to a reduction in waiting times for visa applicants.
“Enhanced visa processing arrangements… have reduced waiting time,” he said.
Ablakwa made the remarks during high-level talks at the United States Department of State, where he met with Allison Hooker, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, and Nick Checker, Senior Bureau Official for African Affairs.
Beyond visa facilitation, the discussions also explored broader areas of cooperation between Ghana and the United States, including preparations towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Deliberations were also held on preparations towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” a statement said, signalling early engagement on Ghana’s participation and related opportunities tied to the tournament.
The 2026 World Cup, to be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is expected to be one of the largest global sporting events, offering opportunities for collaboration in areas such as tourism, logistics, and diplomatic engagement.
The talks formed part of broader efforts to deepen bilateral relations, with both Ghana and the United States reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors for mutual benefit.
