The Ministry of Defence has announced that the Investigation Board set up to probe the recent Z-9 helicopter crash has officially commenced its work.

In a statement signed by Acting Minister for Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Ministry confirmed that the Board is chaired by the National Security Coordinator, with membership drawn from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

“The United States of America is providing advice and assistance to the Board through visiting investigators from the U.S. Air Force,” the statement noted, adding that other relevant experts and institutions, both local and international, may also be invited to assist with the process.

The Ministry recalled that on the day of the incident, August 6, 2025, a preliminary investigation team was quickly constituted to gather available evidence in support of the Board’s work. That preliminary team is scheduled to submit its report to the Board today.

According to Dr. Forson, “The Investigation Board has been mandated to complete its work within 30 days.”
