Bawumia’s downfall is not his end, he will try again – Boako

Gideon Boako has pushed back against claims that former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia should not be given another chance to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after losing the 2024 presidential election.

The Member of Parliament for Tano North argued that defeat at the polls is not the end of any political career.

“The downfall of a man is never the end of his life. He is not the first to attempt the presidential seat and lose it.

“Others tried, they lost, they persevered with tenacity, and they were able to make it,” he said.

Boako pointed to the persistence of past leaders, citing former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor, John Evans Atta Mills, John Mahama, and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who all suffered electoral defeats before eventually winning the presidency.

“He equally believes that, if Kufuor tried once, twice and made it, Akufo-Addo tried multiple times and made it, Mills tried multiple times and made it, John Mahama also tried multiple times and made it, why should he sit back?” Boako asked in interview on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News.

The lawmaker emphasized that Dr. Bawumia remains optimistic about his future in politics and his mission to serve Ghana.

“He also thinks God will be on his side. He will try again, and he can make it such that he can deliver to Ghana what he thinks God has given him,” Boako stressed.

According to Boako, one election loss should not define Bawumia’s political journey. Instead, he framed it as part of the learning curve on the road to the presidency.
