The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is introducing a minimum wage structure for Ghana Premier League players to improve their welfare and professionalize the league.

The GFA’s Executive Council has approved the move, which will be presented to Congress for final approval before the 2025/26 season.

According to GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, “The GFA will introduce a minimum wage structure for players in the Ghana Premier League after it was approved by EXCO.”

This decision aims to ensure fair compensation for players across the league, setting a base salary that all clubs must pay.

Ghana’s top clubs have struggled to retain talent due to low wages and

financial instability, leading to many players seeking opportunities abroad.

The GFA believes the minimum wage structure will boost player morale and help stem the flow of talent abroad.

“The GFA will introduce a minimum wage structure for players in the Ghana Premier League after it was approved by EXCO,” Asante Twum added on Star FM.

The move is expected to enhance standards and strengthen the competitiveness of the league.
