‘I’ve lost one of my greatest pillars’ – Otumfuo mourns Asantehemaa

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has paid a deeply personal and emotional tribute to the late Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III, describing her as a pillar of strength, wisdom, and loyalty whose memory will forever live in the hearts of the Asante people.

The tribute, delivered on his behalf by Executive Chairman of Jonah Capital, Sir Sam Jonah, reflected not only the profound personal bond between the Asantehene and the late Queen Mother but also the immense reverence with which she is remembered across Asanteman.

“The Asante nation will forever remember and honour her name. Generations yet unborn will speak of Nana Konadu Yiadom III as a woman of peace, of patience, of grace and of unshakeable service,” the Asantehene declared.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II described her as more than a traditional leader — she was a trusted confidant, a mother, and a sister whose counsel guided him through the most challenging moments of his reign.

For me personally, she was my confidant. In moments when the burden of kingship pressed heavily upon me, I could turn to her — not as the Asantehemaa — but as my sister,” he said. “She had the rare ability to speak to me as both mother and friend. Her words were never reckless, never shallow. They came from a deep well of experience and wisdom.”

He noted that her loyalty was never influenced by ambition, but by blood, love, and destiny — a devotion that made her counsel invaluable and her support unshakable.

Asanteman, he said, has lost a leader who embodied humility, grace, and selfless service. Her death marks the end of an era, but her legacy, he added, will live on — not just in history, but in the enduring values she represented.

“Asante will never forget her. I will never forget her,” Otumfuo said, adding “May her soul rest in eternal peace among the ancestors. May her memory forever remain a guiding light for Asanteman.

He urged all in positions of leadership — whether chiefs, mothers, or ordinary citizens — to be inspired by her example.

“True leadership is service, true greatness is humility, and true legacy is love,” he said.
