The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has emphasised the need for greater investment in athletics and school sports to improve Ghana’s future performances at international competitions.

Speaking on Ghana’s participation in the 2025 World Athletics Championships, Minister Adams revealed that the government is taking a more serious approach to developing athletics from the grassroots level.

“Investments will have to be more, and that is why we have taken athletics a bit more seriously and school sports generally. We have taken it much more seriously,” he said on the Channel One Newsroom on Saturday, September 20.

The Minister highlighted the importance of creating a strong pipeline of athletes starting from the basic level through continuous training.

“What makes an Olympian is training and continuous training, not one-time training. So locally, we must train; we must offer scholarships to Ghanaians to get there and also study,” he added.

Kofi Adams stressed that a long-term development plan focusing on early talent identification and sustained support is crucial to nurturing world-class athletes who can compete successfully on the global stage.

This renewed focus on athletics and school sports signals the government’s commitment to elevating Ghana’s status in international sports competitions and ensuring the country produces athletes who can shine at events like the Olympics and World Championships.
