The Railway Workers Union of Ghana has suspended its planned strike action scheduled for September 30, 2025, following a directive from the National Labour Commission (NLC).
The union had earlier announced its intention to embark on a strike and peaceful picketing over delays in the payment of salaries and other legitimate entitlements, citing severe financial and health hardships faced by its members.
In a letter dated September 24 and addressed to the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, the union confirmed the suspension, noting that the NLC has intervened and scheduled a negotiation meeting for September 30 the same day the strike was to take place.
“The Commission has directed that we stay our intended action and appear for negotiations on 30th September 2025. We remain committed to this process and will honour the Commission’s directive in good faith,” the union stated.
However, the union issued a stern warning that should the negotiations fail to address their grievances, industrial action will be resumed on a new date.
“Should our demands remain unresolved after the scheduled negotiations, we shall proceed with our intended action on a new date, which will be duly communicated to your office and the public.”
The decision brings temporary relief to railway services across the country, though the situation remains tense as stakeholders await the outcome of next week’s talks.
