According to a report by Crime Check Foundation, Kwadwo’s ordeal began after he picked up a passenger who offered him a bottle of malt.
Unknown to him, the drink had allegedly been laced with a substance that rendered him unconscious. When he regained consciousness, both the passenger and the taxi were gone.
Kwadwo’s wife, Ayarkwa Juliet, recounted the story, explaining that her husband was only trying to do his job when the sad incident occurred.
“He told me a passenger bought him malt, but after drinking it, he became dizzy and passed out. When he woke up, the car had vanished,” she said.
The vehicle, which had a tracker installed, was owned by Francis Attakora. However, the tracking company was unable to locate it after the thieves disconnected the car battery, making it impossible to trace.
In a twist of fate, the police reportedly wrote Kwadwo’s statement on his behalf, and the content implicated him.
Feeling responsible for the car’s disappearance, Kwadwo pleaded guilty in court, believing it was the honorable thing to do since he had lost the vehicle entrusted to his care.
Unfortunately, on the very day he was sentenced to prison, the car owner received information from the tracking company that the vehicle had been sighted around Weija and later found at a drinking spot in Madina.
Francis Attakora has since retrieved the car and, realizing Kwadwo’s innocence, has expressed deep regret over the situation. He has reportedly been apologetic to the driver’s family, who are now pleading for help to secure his release.
