A Plus petitions Speaker of Parliament to remove Abena Osei Asare as PAC Chairperson

Gomoa Central Member of Parliament, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has written to the Speaker of Parliament requesting the removal of Hon. Abena Osei Asare as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

In a formal statement shared on social media, A Plus explained that his request was driven by the need to “protect the integrity and dignity of Parliament,” especially a committee tasked with ensuring accountability in the use of public funds.

According to him, it would be inappropriate for Abena Osei Asare to continue leading the committee when the very matters currently before it occurred during her tenure as Deputy Minister of Finance.

“All the matters currently before the Public Accounts Committee occurred under the leadership of Abena Osei Asare when she served as Deputy Minister of Finance,” A Plus wrote.

“She cannot now turn around to demand answers from newly appointed officials on issues that happened under her own watch.”

He described her continued leadership of the committee as “hypocrisy” and “an insult to the intelligence of the Ghanaian people,” stressing that those who once presided over financial irregularities should not be allowed to sit in judgment over them.

A Plus concluded that his move is not a personal attack but a call for fairness, transparency, and the preservation of public trust in parliamentary oversight.

“We must not allow those who presided over financial irregularities to sit in judgment over them,” he emphasised.
