Bawumia campaign member dismisses significance of ballot position

A member of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team and former Member of Parliament, Opare Ansah, has downplayed the significance of ballot positions following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) latest balloting exercise.

Speaking after the event, he stated that while the exercise is part of the electoral process, the real focus should be on the character and message of the candidates rather than the numbers they draw.

“We came to know where we were candidating in the ballot paper.

“The rules of election, candidates are supposed to ballot through the sheets on the ballot paper. That’s precisely how we came out here. That’s how it has been done,” he explained.

Opare Ansah noted that his team was satisfied with the outcome of the process, emphasizing that the position on the ballot has little to no bearing on electoral success.

“We are okay with the position. I have run tonnes of elections.

“I have found myself in different places on the ballot. NPP itself has gone through several elections. We’ve been on all kinds of positions,” he said.

He added that it was unnecessary to overemphasize the symbolism attached to ballot numbers, saying, “These same aspirants have had elections before and all been on different positions on the ballot paper.

“So I don’t think the balloting process is really something we have to make a fetish. Unlike some people who would want to say one is this, two is that, three is that. I don’t subscribe to any of that.”

According to him, the focus of Dr. Bawumia’s campaign remains on his competence, humility, and ability to unite the party and the nation.

“I go out and campaign on the strength of my candidate, espectability, humility, and issues that promote unity within the party and the progress of the country. That is what I think should guide delegates and Ghanaians,” he concluded.
