Don’t be only architects of law but also custodians of hope – Mahama entreats new Court of Appeal Justices

President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in 21 new Justices of the Court of Appeal, including President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II.

Others Justices sworn in are; Justice Senyo Amedahe, Justice Olivia Boeng Owusu, Justice Douglas Seidu, Justice Ali Baba Bature, Justice Mariama Samo, Justice Abena Adzin Doku, Justice Mary Maame Akua Yanzu, Justice Justin Dorgu, Justice George Boadi, Justice Ayitey Armah-Tetteh and Justice Jennifer Anne Myers Ahmed.

The remaining include Justice John Bosco Nabarese, Justice Kwasi Anokye Gyimah, Justice Richmond Osei Hwere, Justice Apangano Achibonga, Justice Charity Akosua Asem, Justice Enyonam Adinyira, Justice Shiela Minta, Justice Bridget Kafui Antonio and Justice Franklina Gesila Adanu.

Speaking to the new Justices at the Jubilee House on Thursday, October 2, 2025, President Mahama entreated them to inspire confidence in Ghanaians by their judgement and restore hope in the justice system.

“So, to you our new Justices, I say let your judgement not sound as criticism but inspire confidence in our people. Let your judgement reassure Ghanaians that while there may be vague outcomes, we can never doubt your integrity, your impartiality and your infidelity to the national constitution,” he stated.

President Mahama urged the Justices to ensure that the “corrosive’” perception by some Ghanaians that the courts and justice system only belongs to the wealthy and powerful is no more.

“In recent times, our courts have not escaped criticism. Citizens have openly and sometimes harshly questioned Judicial decisions. But I want to say clearly that criticisms of judgement is not the end of hope. It is the evident of hope. It shows that Ghanaians still believe in the courts, that Justice still matters and that verdicts have meanings in their life.

“What we must guard against is cynicism. The corrosive believe that the court is no longer for a set of people but only the powerful in society,” he adviced.

The President added: “I urge you therefore to be not only architects of law but also custodians of hope. Carry with you the solemn truth that Justice is the most powerful promise of our democracy and that through your service this promise will endure.”
