The Ghanaian community in the Russian Federation, led by its President, Mr. Ebenezer Wepari, along with executives and a delegation of members, paid a s courtesy call on Ghana’s newly appointed Ambassador to Russia, His Excellency Dr. Koma Steem Jehu-Appiah.

The visit served as a formal congratulation to Ambassador Jehu-Appiah on his appointment and a heartfelt welcome to a nation he intimately knows.

President Wepari, speaking on behalf of the entire Ghanaian diaspora in Russia, expressed profound gratitude for the Ambassador’s acceptance of such a crucial role.

He particularly highlighted Ambassador Jehu-Appiah’s unique connection to the Russian Federation, noting that the Ambassador undertook his medical training in the country. This personal history, Mr. Wepari emphasized, provides a valuable foundation for understanding the local context and fostering stronger ties.

The meeting transcended mere formalities, evolving into a constructive dialogue on several areas vital to Ghana’s national development and the welfare of its citizens abroad. Key among the topics discussed were:

Bilateral Relations between Russia and Ghana: Both parties explored avenues to strengthen the long-standing diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations. Discussions centred on how the embassy, in collaboration with the community, could contribute to deepening cooperation in various sectors.
Business Opportunities: A significant portion of the discussion focused on identifying and leveraging business opportunities for Ghanaian entrepreneurs and investors within the Russian market, as well as attracting Russian investment into Ghana. The goal was to facilitate economic growth and create avenues for wealth creation.

Education: Recognizing Russia’s strong academic heritage, the meeting addressed opportunities for Ghanaian students to pursue higher education in Russian institutions, as well as initiatives to enhance educational exchanges and partnerships between Ghanaian and Russian universities.
Migration: Critical issues pertaining to the well-being and legal status of Ghanaian migrants in Russia were thoroughly discussed. The community outlined challenges faced by some members, and the Ambassador reiterated his commitment to ensuring the welfare, protection, and interests of all Ghanaians residing in the federation.

Ambassador Dr. Koma Steem Jehu-Appiah, in his remarks, thanked President Wepari and the community for their warm reception and assured them of his unwavering dedication to serving Ghana’s interests and addressing the needs of its citizens in Russia. He acknowledged the vital role the diaspora plays as key partners in national development and pledged his office’s full support for their initiatives and concerns.

The meeting concluded on a highly positive note, signifying a promising beginning to Ambassador Jehu-Appiah’s tenure. It laid a solid foundation for enhanced collaboration between the Ghanaian Embassy and the diaspora community, united in their efforts to advance Ghana’s objectives and ensure the prosperity and well-being of its people in the Russian Federation.
