Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has praised President John Dramani Mahama’s unwavering commitment to fighting illegal mining, stating that the President has made it clear that “no one is too big to fall.”

The Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese MP revealed that President Mahama has demonstrated strong political will by ordering investigations into alleged illegal mining activities involving even high-ranking party officials.

“Both publicly and privately, President Mahama has told everybody in the NDC that as far as he’s concerned, nobody is too big to fall if they get involved in galamsey,” Kwakye Ofosu stated during a panel discussion on TV3’s KeyPoints, monitored by Lovinghananews.com.

He disclosed that the Attorney General is currently overseeing inquiries into allegations against two senior NDC officials, the party’s vice chairman and organizer, after claims emerged about their involvement in illegal mining.

“The Attorney General briefed us only last week that the investigation is being broadened following new allegations,” he added, assuring that any official found culpable will face action.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that this represents a departure from past practices, where party interests were often protected at the expense of environmental enforcement.

“When a president launches inquiries into members of his own party, it shows political will. It shows a clear break from the past, where the tendency was to defend the party’s interest,” he said.

He further noted that the Mahama administration is determined to restore Ghana’s forest reserves and enforce laws against illegal mining, insisting that this time, “political protection for offenders is over.”
