The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has announced that a major achievement in the power sector has been the review of 347 legacy contracts, 202 of which have been terminated.

He said that this has resulted in the savings of approximately US$300 million for the Ghanaian taxpayer.

He commended the management, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), led by Ing. Julius Kpekpena, for the strides made in procurement, maintenance, revenue mobilisation, and strategic direction.

As part of his supervisory role over agencies under the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, he conducted an official visit to the Electricity Company of Ghana, which he described as the heartbeat of our energy value chain.

The visit focused on engaging with staff, understanding current challenges, and reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the company’s reforms.

The Minister issued a warning that any staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) involved in malfeasance, be it through the unauthorised sale of meters or diversion of revenue, will be held fully accountable.

He said he would not tolerate any conduct that undermines national infrastructure or robs the Ghanaian people.

He reminded staff of the collective responsibility to build a more efficient, transparent, and accountable energy sector.

“As Minister, I will not tolerate conduct that undermines national infrastructure or robs the Ghanaian people. There will be no shielding, no special treatment and no exceptions. “This government is not only fixing what it inherited, but also making bold corrections to ensure long-term stability in the energy sector.

“I pledged my full support to ECG and urged the staff to stay focused and committed to delivering on their mandate with integrity,” he wrote on Facebook after the visit.
