Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Alex Segbefia has reiterated government’s resolve to support technical and vocational education.
At a durbar in Klefe in the Volta Region, Alex Segbefia on behalf of the Vice President, promised to support and expand the Klefe Technical Institute which the chiefs say is in poor shape.
It was a big day for the chiefs and people of Klefe in the Volta Region. Hundreds of them had gathered to celebrate this year’s yam festival and to raise funds towards upgrading the Klefe Technical Institute.
Paramount Chief of the Klefe traditional area, Togbui Koku Dzaga XI said the community is blessed with young people who have different potentials and aspirations but said unemployment is a challenge.
“While the school has grown steadily with the current student population at 150, it currently faces a critical shortage of infrastructure, which impedes effective teaching and learning, training, learning outcomes and skills transfer.” He bemoaned.
The Chief also charged the community members to be better stewards of the environment noting illegal stone mining, bush burning and deforestation are seriously affecting crop yields.
“We are witnessing lower crop yields, declining fish stock, rising health risks and unpredictable weather patterns, all fueled by human rampant uncontrolled activities.” He lamented.
The District Chief Executive for Ho West, Prof Francis Dusey, promised to liaise with GETFund and the MP to ensure development of the Technical Institute.
On behalf of the Vice President, Mr Alex Segbefia promised to prioritise the developmental challenges raised by the chiefs.
“The government will immediately facilitate the provision of the electrical accessories, plumbing materials, painting supplies, fencing materials, and the 40 double-decker beds with mattresses needed to complete the ongoing dormitory and teacher’s residence projects.”
He said technical education is key for the nation’s development. “The administration block, dormitory blocks, dining hall, additional classrooms, and other facilities you’ve requested will receive priority consideration in the next funding cycle.”
The durbar targeted to raise 1 million Ghana cedis to complete school infrastructure and expansion of the technical institute.
