Why Jakpa is asking CID to investigate former Attorney General Dame

Richard Jakpa has formally petitioned the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to investigate former Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, over allegations of fabricating evidence in the ongoing ambulance procurement trial.

In his petition, the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat accused Dame of deliberately trying to manipulate the legal process.

“This is not only about me as an accused person — it is about justice in Ghana. I want the police to investigate the former Attorney-General for fabricating evidence in this matter,” Jakpa stated.

He claimed that Dame had approached him on several occasions with the intention of coercing him to testify against Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

“He personally asked me to cooperate and testify in a way that would incriminate Dr. Ato Forson. When I refused, he turned to attacking my credibility,” Jakpa alleged.

According to him, such actions not only undermine the integrity of the judiciary but also threaten the public’s trust in the justice system.

“If the chief legal officer of the land can engage in fabrications, then no one is safe. This is why I am calling on the CID to step in, investigate thoroughly, and let the truth come out,” he said.

The petition adds another twist to a high-profile case that has gripped the nation, sparking fierce debate over political interference in judicial proceedings.

While Jakpa presses for a probe, allies of the former Attorney-General have dismissed the accusations as politically motivated. The CID has yet to issue an official response to the petition.
