Stop feeling sorry for yourselves – Gabby Otchere-Darko to NPP

Leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, has called on members of the party to shed feelings of regret and self-pity as they prepare to contest the 2028 elections.

In a video originally shared by UTV Ghana, Otchere-Darko is seen urging the NPP to face the future with confidence and courage, stressing that excessive remorse over past shortcomings could undermine their ability to regain power.

“Stop feeling sorry because sometimes if you are not careful and you feel too sorry for yourself, you begin to lose confidence in yourself,” he said.

“You must be bolder in defending what you did. You must be humble in accepting where you fell short, and you must have the confidence to say, look, in spite of this and that, I can tell you that I’ve built more roads than any government that has spent the number of times that I’ve spent in office.”

He reminded the party of its tangible achievements across various sectors, including infrastructure, health, education, and security, urging them to take pride in their accomplishments rather than dwell on criticism.

“I did more for health, I did more for education, I did more for the military, I did more for the police, I did more for so many areas. You can say all that because the facts are there,” Otchere-Darko stated. “But you sit there and you blame yourself and you feel sorry for yourself and you want to come back to office in 2028? Are you serious?”

While he encouraged humility and introspection, Otchere-Darko cautioned that such reflection should not lead to despondency.

“Have the humility to accept that there were some commissions and omissions that on hindsight you could have benefited or defended,” he said. “But don’t wallow in sorrow. If you wallow in sorrow, you will go down or you will stay where you were.”
