President John Dramani Mahama has stated that cases under the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) will not be rushed, despite the public outcry for expedited action.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Christian Council of Ghana at Jubilee House on Tuesday, November 18, the President addressed concerns over the pace of ongoing corruption investigations.
He emphasised the importance of following due process in gathering information and preparing case dockets that will withstand judicial scrutiny.
“People come to me and say that ORAL is too slow. But the point is, we have a constitution, we’re not in the military and revolutionary days. Whatever a person has done, the person must have his/her day in court. And the judge must look at the evidence and decide whether he’s guilty or not. Even though most Ghanaians want us to have a big court and dispatch them there, and when guilty, we send the person to Nsawam. We’ve a constitution and we must follow the process.
“The investigative organisations are working. They will prepare the dockets properly. Evidence gathering is important; otherwise, your case will be thrown out of court if you rush. We’re not going to rush those cases if we don’t have evidence, because the public is looking for action. The fight against corruption, we’ll be impartial, fair, and we’re committed,” President Mahama added.
