Nigerian singer Waje has opened up about her views on marriage, revealing that she cannot marry a man who is not successful.
The award-winning vocalist said her stance has nothing to do with materialism but rather the stage of life she’s in and the kind of partnership she desires.
“I can’t marry someone who is not successful. I can’t, and here’s why,” she began on the Honest Bunch monitored by Lovinghananews.
“First of all, I’m not in my 20s, so we are not growing together. If I’m going to meet a man, he has to lead, he leads by selling aspiration to me. I have to aspire to see him lead.”
According to Waje, success is not just about money but about having direction, emotional intelligence, and the ability to inspire growth in a partner.
“If he can’t inspire me to grow, then it’s not going to work,” she continued.
“So success is part of it, faith is part of it, and understanding how to read the room and not show up in the world angry is part of it, because I’m also doing the work.”
Waje explained that at this stage of her life, she’s more focused on emotional maturity and shared values than youthful excitement.
“When asked if she could consider dating a handsome, well-built 25-year-old, she was quick to dismiss the idea.
“No, I wasn’t even thinking of that,” she replied with a laugh. “We’ll have issues. I’m very pragmatic. I sometimes have to hold myself with my siblings, friends, and family members. Imagine if it was a husband.”
