Award-winning journalist Godwin Asediba has announced his move to BBC News | Focus on Africa, marking a new chapter in his career shortly after departing Media General, where he spent the last three years.
Asediba shared the news of his BBC appointment on Facebook, expressing excitement about the opportunity to contribute to African storytelling on a global platform. “I am excited to begin my role as a journalist with BBC News | Focus on Africa, bringing depth, context, and fresh perspectives to African storytelling. Grateful and ready,” he wrote.
The announcement follows a press statement released on Friday, December 26, 2025, in which Asediba confirmed his exit from Media General, bringing to a close what he described as a “profoundly rewarding and defining” period of his professional journey.
During his time with the media conglomerate, Asediba worked across its platforms (TV3, 3FM, and 3news.com) serving as an investigative journalist, producer, and news anchor. He credited Media General for playing a crucial role in his development as a journalist and storyteller.
The trust placed in me, the opportunities to tell meaningful stories, and the exposure to a dynamic newsroom shaped me in ways that will remain with me for life,” he said.
He extended heartfelt appreciation to management, editors, producers, and colleagues for their guidance and support, describing the experience of working alongside professionals committed to truth, impact, and public service as both a privilege and an education that sharpened his craft and deepened his sense of responsibility.
Asediba leaves Media General with an impressive list of accolades, including 2025 BBC News Komla Dumor Award Winner, GJA Overall Best Journalist of the Year 2024, and International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) Award Winner—honours that underscore his impact and excellence in journalism locally and internationally.
Sharing his departure statement on Facebook, he wrote:
“With gratitude and fond memories, I close an important chapter at Media General. It has been a privilege working with such talented people and contributing to meaningful work… Here’s to new beginnings.”
Now stepping into his new role with BBC News’ Focus on Africa, Asediba says he does so with optimism, carrying forward the experiences and relationships built over the years. His move has attracted widespread goodwill messages from colleagues, industry players, and audiences, many of whom see his appointment as a significant win for African journalism on the global stage.
As he transitions from Media General to the BBC, Godwin Asediba’s journey continues—this time, amplifying African stories to the world.
