Judiciary is not under attack – Asiedu Nketiah

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has rejected suggestions that the current government is plotting to remove suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo from office.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, August 26, Asiedu Nketiah insisted that the executive arm of government has taken no such steps.

“The executive has done nothing about the removal of the Chief Justice,” he stated firmly.

According to him, the executive has remained within the bounds of the constitution, carrying out its responsibilities without interfering in judicial matters.

“If anything at all, the executive is undertaking their responsibilities as far as upholding the constitution is concerned.

“So, the executive, to my mind, has not done anything by itself to try and remove the Chief Justice,” he explained.

Asiedu Nketiah further dismissed claims that the judiciary is under political siege. In his view, the situation should be seen as part of ongoing institutional reforms, not an attack on judicial independence.

“Judiciary is not under attack. There is a reform of state institutions,” he noted.

He stressed that any perceived challenges within the judiciary must be addressed from within, pointing to the institution’s constitutional mandate.

“So if there is a problem with the judiciary, the judiciary has to be reformed to undertake its constitutional duties,” he added.
